Roger Tweet

Roger Allen Tweet was born on April 2, 1938, to Rasmus and Bertha (Schelstad) Tweet at the Luverne Hospital in Luverne, Minnesota. Roger was baptized and confirmed at Kenneth Lutheran Church in Kenneth, Minnesota. He was raised on a farm southeast of town. He attended grade school in Kenneth and later attended Magnolia High School in Magnolia, Minnesota, graduating in 1956.

While in school, Roger played football and ran track. He also played summer baseball for the Luverne American Legion team.

Following high school, he went to work on a farm for his uncle for a couple of years. He then became employed with Hodgman Construction, working on the tar, gravel and asphalt equipment for about four years. In 1958 he went back into farming.

On August 22, 1970, Roger married Barbara Tweet at First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The couple made their home in Kenneth where they raised their family. Roger continued farming until his retirement in 2015. Shortly after, the couple moved to Luverne, where Roger continued as a caregiver to Barb. He also found his way back to the farm to offer help to Paul and Mark wherever he could.

At the age of five years old, he began his enjoyment of riding horse and caring for the animals. He eventually moved up to driving horse and buggy in the summers and horse and cutter/sleigh in the winters. As a young person, he enjoyed everything sports-related, especially baseball and fast-pitch softball. Often in the summer he could be found playing four or more nights during the week. As he became older, he managed the Magnolia softball team and also became involved in slow-pitch softball.

In the winters he bowled on two different teams. He even played in the ABC (American Bowling Congress), where he bowled all over the United States and at the national tournaments. He has over 100 trophies from his bowling career. He met a lot of people and saw a lot during his travels.

Roger enjoyed living life, making relationships, and appreciating all the experiences that life gave him. He was proud of his kids and was always there for them.

Roger was a member of Kenneth Lutheran Church where he served in many offices until its closing. He then became a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Luverne.

He served as president of the American Bowling League for 45 years. He also served on the Kenneth Fire Department and the city council for over 35 years, as well as blew snow for the town in the winters.

On Sunday, April 14, 2024, while at his home, Roger went to be with the Lord at the age of 86 years and twelve days.

Roger is lovingly remembered by his wife, Barb; children Paul Tweet and Mark Tweet of Kenneth, and Tonya Larsen of Minneota, Minnesota; three grandchildren; and brother LeRoy (Sue) Tweet of Kenneth.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rasmus and Bertha; and brother Larry Tweet.

Funeral service will be Friday, April 19, at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Luverne. Burial will follow at Kenneth Lutheran Cemetery near Kenneth, Minnesota. Arrangements are under the care of Hartquist Funeral Home in Luverne.
