Robert Halvor Bakken, 56, rural Luverne, died Monday, May 2, 2016, at his home.
A funeral service was Friday, May 6, at Grace Lutheran Church in Luverne. Burial followed at Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne.
Robert Bakken was born May 22, 1959, to Helmer and Arla (Jacobson) Bakken at Luverne Hospital in Luverne. He spent his life on the family farm.
He graduated from Luverne High School in 1978. In high school he was a student manager for Elmer Menage’s football teams and Laurin Carroll’s basketball teams. He also helped in the Resource Room at Grace Church under the direction of his friends, Larry and Colleen Hoyme. 
He attended Sioux Vocational School in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Following vocational school, he returned home to help his father and his brother, Mark, on the farm.
Bob was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church in Luverne, where he was baptized into the Christian faith on June 21, 1959, and confirmed his faith on Oct. 12, 1975. Bob enjoyed high school basketball and football games, as well as band and choir concerts.
Bob was a kind and gentle man who enjoyed the simple things in life and saw the good in others. He dearly loved tending his farm animals throughout the years, including his cattle, sheep, dogs, cats and chickens.
Bob is survived by his mother, Arla Bakken of  Luverne; his siblings, Judy (Garry) Haliburton, Harrisburg, South Dakota, Paul (Jennifer) Bakken, Luverne, and Mark Bakken, Luverne; his niece and nephews, Jennifer, Jeff, and Ross Haliburton and Hans Bakken; his great-niece and nephew MaKenzie and Brayden Haliburton; and other relatives and friends. 
He was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents.
