Norma Selma Gertz, 81, Jasper, died Saturday, Nov. 7, 2015, at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
A memorial service was Wednesday, Nov. 11, at Jasper Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jasper with a private interment at Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne.
Norma Hoiland was born Sept. 28, 1934, to Arne and Hilda (Josal) Hoiland in Luverne. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She grew up on the farm near Luverne and graduated from Luverne High School in 1953.
On July 3, 1955, she married Karen Gertz at Zion Lutheran Church in Luverne. They began farming in 1957 southeast of Luverne in Magnolia Township of Rock County. In 1966 they moved to a farm south of Jasper in Rose Dell Township where Norma currently resided. She continued to live at the farm with a brief stay at the Mary Jane Brown Home in Luverne.
Norma was a member of Jasper Evangelical Lutheran Church. She served in the Ladies Aid and circle and also helped quilt at church. She enjoyed water walking exercise, puzzles, senior citizens activities, gardening, reading, playing cards and time spent with family.
She is survived by her children, Bernice Gertz, Sioux Falls, Ileen Gertz, Rosemount, and Wayne (Lori) Gertz, Jasper; a grandson, Gary Gertz, Jasper; and a sister, Florence Helle, Luverne.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Karen Gertz.
