Lila Mae Baustian, 75, Luverne, died Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015, at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  
A funeral service was Saturday, Sept. 12, at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne, with burial at St. Catherine Cemetery in Luverne.
Lila Denstedt was born Nov. 16, 1939, to William and Alta (Phelps) Denstedt in Park Rapids. At a young age, Lila was adopted by LaRoy and Martha (Christensen) Satter and was raised on their family farm near Holland. She attended and graduated from Pipestone Area High School in 1958. After high school, she worked various jobs.
On June 13, 1962, she married Norbert Baustian at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne. They made their home on the family farm west of Luverne. After all of their children started school, Lila completed the registered nursing program at Sioux Valley Hospital’s School of Nursing. She then worked as a registered nurse at the Royal C. Johnson’s Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. In 2008 she retired after 27 years.
Lila was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne, where she belonged to Ladies Circle. She was active in 4-H when her children were young. She loved country life, tending her garden, growing vegetables, feeding and watching the birds, baking and attending polka festivals with her husband, Norbert. She enjoyed playing cards and was a member of a monthly pinochle club with the neighbors. She also liked fishing, vacationing with her siblings and following the Minnesota Twins, Vikings and Golden Gophers.
Lila is survived by five children, LTC. David L. (Mary) Soergel, Camp Zama, Tokyo, Japan, and their son, Nicholas; Julie (Fred) Slettom, Little Falls, and their two children, Savanna and Sam; Tom (Theresa) Baustian, Luverne, and their children Tanner, Trey, Tacey and Trista; Janet (Lennie) Varilek, Jackson, and their children Alysse (Grant) Rasmussen and Ethan; and Shelley (Bryce) Jensen, Sioux Falls, and their children Kyle and Corey; four siblings, Ken (Darlene) Satter, Brandon, South Dakota, Norman (Esther) Denstedt, Park Rapids, Dean Denstedt, Detroit Lakes, and Ellie (Donald) Scherber, Maple Grove; a brother-in-law, Gary Panzer, Bemidji; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norb Baustian, on March 11, 2006; her parents; and a sister, Janice Panzer.
