Gladys A. Walker, 90, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, passed away peacefully Sept. 16, 2025.
A visitation was Monday, Sept. 22, 2025, from 5-7 p.m. at George Boom Funeral Home and On-Site Crematory, 3408 E. 10th Street, Sioux Falls, SD 57103. A funeral service was Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2025, beginning at 10 a.m. at Faith Baptist Fellowship, 601 W. 57th Street, Sioux Falls, SD 57108. Gladys was laid to rest at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Tea, South Dakota.
Gladys was born on Sept. 23, 1934, to Thomas and Marie (Boelman) Reemts in Rock Rapids, Iowa. She spent her childhood years on the farm with her two sisters. She was baptized and confirmed at the State Line Ebenezer Church. She attended country school in her early years and graduated from Luverne High School with the class of 1952. In 1963 she moved to Sioux Falls and remained ever since.
Gladys was a lifelong member of Faith Baptist Fellowship Church, as well as a lifetime member of V.F.W. Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Moose Auxiliary and the Center for Active Generation. From 1973 until 1985, she worked in the office for the Elks Club and then became the office manager for the Sioux Empire Fair office.
She married Herman Walker on April 21, 1990, and they had a wonderful 35 years together.
Gladys was known to enjoy a good game of bridge and pinochle whenever time allowed, and she was a proud participant of their unofficial “Bridge Ladies” group.
She and Herman would frequently go fishing, hunting, and camping together. They would often spend the winter months in Mesa, Arizona, and that became a happy place for her.
Gladys enjoyed socializing and entertaining, most commonly while she’d be on the side lines while Herman would play tennis or softball. The one thing greater than her love of Mesa was her family – she adored her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and would light up whenever they were with her.
Grateful for having shared her life is her husband, Herman Walker, of Sioux Falls; children, Dean Lawrence, Julie Miller (Steve Natz) of Sioux Falls, David (Marcia) Lawrence of Sioux Falls; stepdaughter, Tammy Walker of Sioux Falls; grandchildren, Steven (Sarah) Miller of Sioux Falls, Brandon (Dru) Miller of Tea, South Dakota, Stephanie (Tom) Sittig of Denver, Colorado, Jamison Lawrence of Sioux Falls, Bradley (Brianna) Lawrence of New Haven, Connecticut; stepgranddaughters, Monica Swanson and Kristi Tallman; 12 great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and a niece, Linda Schoon (Dick Knapper).
Gladys is preceded in death by her first husband, Julian Lawrence; her parents, sisters, Joyce (Norman) Wessels and Dorothy (Ermil) Johnson; and a grandson, Michael Miller.
