Evelyn Clara Stueven, 87, Luverne, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017, at the Sanford Luverne Medical Center.
A funeral service was Sunday, Oct. 1, at St. John Lutheran Church in Luverne. Burial followed at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery near Steen.
Evelyn Kitchenmaster was born June 28, 1930, to Eli and Alvina (Lauck) Kitchenmaster in Luverne. She was raised on a farm east of Hills and was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church of Steen. She attended school in Hills.
On Sept. 2, 1955, Evelyn married Wilfred Stueven at Peace Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, Iowa. The couple made their first home in George, Iowa, moving two years later to live near Rock Rapids. In 1964 Evelyn and Wilfred moved their family to Pipestone and in 1968 to Hills, where they farmed. In addition to being a mother, homemaker and farm wife, Evelyn was also employed as a housekeeper for many families. After retiring from farming, the couple moved to Luverne in July of 1988. In June of 2013 they moved to the Tuff Memorial Village in Hills. In August of 2017 Evelyn moved to the Tuff Memorial Home in Hills.
Evelyn was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Luverne and was active with Ladies Circle, the Women’s Society and taught Sunday school for many years. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidery and quilting.
Evelyn is survived by two sons, Harlan (Susan) Stueven, Hills, and Paul (Marlene) Stueven, Welcome; a daughter, Marlene (Joe) Quincey, George; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Verla (LeRoy) Fick, Luverne; and a brother-in-law, Gerhard Fick, Luverne.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilfred; her parents; a granddaughter, Tanya Joy Stueven; two sisters, Eldora Fick and Myra Polesky; four brothers-in-law, Ed Polesky, Marvin, Harold, and Lavern Stueven; and three sisters-in-law, Alma, Verna, and Karen Stueven.
Memorials may be directed to Little Lambs Pre-School of St. John Lutheran Church, LWML, or Sanford Luverne Hospice.
