Luverne firefighters welcomed the public to tour the fire hall, trucks and equipment Thursday night during an open house for Fire Prevention Week Oct. 9-15. The event included a demonstration of how an automated sprinkler system can save lives until the fire department shows up.

Pictured here, Luverne Fireman Tyler LeBrun talks to fire hall visitors about the sprinkler system demonstration. He said it can take awhile before firefighters arrive at a house fire but it takes only a few minutes for a sprinkler system to be activated by a fire.

The sprinkler demonstration featured a homemade “house” with two “rooms,” each containing a couch. One had a sprinkler, the other didn’t, and when both couches were ignited, the sprinkled room had its contents intact (albeit wet) while the non-sprinkled room burned up.
