Luverne’s 35th annual Buffalo Days weekend unfolded under near-perfect weather conditions, which made the celebration especially enjoyable, according to Chamber Director Jane Wildung Lanphere.
“We have to give credit to the weather gods,” she said.
The sunshine was especially welcome after an unusually cold, wet spring that prevented annual Arts in the Park activities from taking place in the park.
In a flurry of last-minute plans, booths, food vendors, entertainers and activities were relocated to the Courthouse Square where the event carried on almost seamlessly.
“I’d just like to thank everyone for being flexible,” Lanphere said. “We had great support from the city and county and many volunteers, and we should give accolades to the vendors for being flexible to make it work.”
Lanphere said public response to the courthouse location was overwhelmingly positive, given the easy access via multiple sidewalks on all sides.
“Necessity is the mother of invention,” she said. “It was wonderful to see people who haven’t been here before have the opportunity to come up here and see how beautiful it is.”
She said the Chamber has been encouraged to consider the Courthouse Square as the location for future Arts in the Park events.
“It’s something we could do a better job with if we had more time to plan,” Lanphere said. “But we haven’t had a chance to discuss this with the county yet.”
