Schutz, Davis win first Stein-Holding Contest

Twenty-seven people participated in the first Stein-Holding Contest during Saturday afternoon’s Rock River Beerfest.
The contest featured a men’s and a women’s division with each challenged to hold, at shoulder height, a glass stein filled with beer weighing 5 ½ pounds.
Each division was limited to 20 participants.
Sixteen participated in the men’s division, with Josh Arndt, Mike Davis and Jason Schutz emerging as winners of the three preliminary rounds.
Davis was the overall winner of the men’s division title with a time of 4 minutes, 6 seconds.
April Schutz won the women’s division after defeating challenger Jen Weibe with a time of 2 minutes, 21 seconds.
Eleven women competed in the two preliminary rounds.
Rock River Beerfest featured more than 120 profiles of craft beer and wine.
This was the event’s third year.
Earning Best of Show honors in the Beerfest’s Homebrew Contest was T.J. Tedrow with Morgan Duffy for the Bloody Mummer brew from the other worldly brews category.
Other awards were given in the following categories:
•Other worldly brews: first, John Leinen, Nora’s Strong Ginger Ale; second, Adam Dosch, Caramel 60 Draft; and third, Paul Siefert, Ich Bin Eine Pineapple.
•Malt master: first, Mike Janssen, Lila; second, Cerveza, Jason Davenport with Matt Halstad and Tyler Jepperson; and third Adam Dosch, Vienna Rhubarb Ale.
•Hop master: first, T.J. Tedrow with Morgan Duffy, American IPA; second, Mike Janssen, Dave’s Pale Ale; and third, Brian Stuedemann, Slurry 6x6.
