•Minnesota West’s initial plans to have a small presence here have grown into an agreement that will make Luverne a medical career training ground. ...
For this venture Minnesota West became a partner with the city of Luverne and Sioux Valley Health System.
The new training facility will be called the Luverne Educational Center for Health Careers, a name and concept unveiled Friday, Sept. 15.
The training center will be in the former hospital on Luverne and Spring streets. The Luverne City Hall will also relocate to that complex.

With opening of the segment east of the Rock River there will be 18 miles of completed Interstate Highway in Rock County. The State Highway Department has the segment from Magnolia to Adrian as their next objective.

•John Carstens was successful in his bid for the Luverne Country Club golf championship Sunday when he defeated Dick Creeger over the 38 hole match play grind by a score of 2 up.
•County Superintendent V. M. Barrett, Superintendent M. C. Munson, Coach Norbert Manion and Geo. Edmunds participated in the 27 hole schoolmen’s golf tournament played Saturday at the Elmwood country club course in Sioux Falls.
 
100 years ago (1916)
•The frost on Thursday night of last week was unusually severe for the first frost of the season, blighting practically all growing vegetation. The principal damage resulting was, of course, to the corn, but there is a wide difference of opinion as to the extent of this damage. The great majority of the corn was well out of danger of frost, but there were some fields, according to reports, that needed another week of warm weather.
