Rock County Red Arrow recently wrote checks for $2,500 each to the Rock County Senior Center and Luverne Street Music, two new organizations Red Arrow now supports.
“We came into some extra money after the books were closed,” said Martha Morse of Red Arrow. “We do not keep it on hand; we like to disperse it if we can.”
Senior Dining and Luverne Street Music join a list of local non-profit agencies that now total 30.
The Senior Center donation will be used to replace dining room chairs.
According to Senior Dining Director Janice Fick, the new chairs will have armrests for better stability for seniors getting up and down from the table at mealtime.
The Luverne Street Music donation will be used to support a scholarship program to provide instruments for children.
“For many families this is quite an expense,” Morse said.
Luverne Street Music instructors said the instruments will go a long way toward helping to educate students in the program.
For Red Arrow’s part, Morse said these two funding needs are exactly what Red Arrow aims to meet.
“We prefer to disperse funds for specific client needs, not administrative costs,” Morse said, pointing out that Red Arrow’s only administrative costs are postage and printing.
The organization was founded in 1965 on the premise that it would simplify giving for area residents by coordinating one major fundraising drive that would support dozens of local charities.
The theme this year for Red Arrow’s 50th year of fundraising is “Rocking Around the County with Red Arrow.”
Dianne Ossenfort is the 2015 drive chairwoman and can be reached at 283-9050.
