The group Helping Build Communities Stronger met Tuesday, May 19, to finalize plans for the upcoming celebration of Hills’ 125th anniversary.
The group will be meeting again at 7:30 p.m. Monday, June 1, to finalize events for the celebration.
Activities discussed for the weekend:
•Raffle tickets are on sale for a commemorative 125th Henry Lever. 22 rifle engraved with the Hills logo. The gun is being displayed at the Hills City Office. A limited number of 200 tickets will be sold at $20 per ticket and are available at the Hills City Offices, Elbers Auction, Exchange State Bank of Hills and Orv’s. You need not be present to win.
•T-shirts commemorating our 125th anniversary are being sold for $10 and can be purchased at Hills City Offices.
•Hills Memorabilia will be displayed at Hills City Office Saturday, June 13.
•On display will also be a Kitchen Fire Safety Trailer from the Minnesota State Fire Chiefs Association.
Friday, June 12
•Shot gun start will be at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. for the four-person Best Ball Golf Tourney at Larchwood Golf Course
•At 6:30 p.m. Border League Softball games at Hills softball field will start, featuring Hills vs. Steen for the first game and Beaver Creek vs. Rock Rapids to follow.
Saturday, June 13
•FFA Alumni Pancake Breakfast 7 to 9 a.m. at Hills American Legion
•Fun 5 K Run/Walk will start at 8 a.m. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. Contact Around The Clock Fitness and Training.
•9:30 a.m. Bean Bag Tournament. Contact Keith Elbers or Alan Leenderts to register. Cost is $10 per team.
•10 a.m. to noon — “Meet and Greet” at the Hills-Beaver Creek High School.
•10 a.m. to 2 p.m.- Farm Tractor/Machinery Show. Contact Greg Leenderts.
•3 p.m. Parade with the theme “Days of the Past.” Wendell Erickson will be the grand marshal. The parade will also include representatives from former businesses in Hills.
•5 p.m. to 7 p.m. — Evening meal on Main Street includes steak, potato, vegetable, dinner roll and beverage. Tickets in advance are $15; at the door cost $18. Kids’ meals of hamburger or hot dog are available for $5. No pre-tickets are needed for kids’ meals.
•7 p.m. – Street Dance with music by Neo Johnson – Main Street Hills.

•Kiddie Tractor Pull – 11:30 a.m.
•Kids’ activities at the park – 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Inflatables, train rides and Ferris wheel.
