A small group of girls made a large delivery to the Luverne Fire Department Monday night at the fire hall.
As part of their “Donation of Caring” project this year, the Girl Scouts in kindergarten through first grade accepted cookie donations — 37 boxes in all — from their customers for “local heroes.”
They delivered Girl Scout cookies in all eight flavors to the Luverne Fire Department and also had a chance to tour the fire hall and experience a fire truck.
“They were really wonderful with the girls,” said Troop leader Emily Rensink.
She said the local scouts initially considered cookies for military personnel overseas, but opted instead to give to the firemen, “because cookies have a tendency to melt when sent overseas.”
Rensink co-leads the Girl Scouts with Christine Tyng, and their group started new last fall.
An older group of Girl Scouts in grades 2 and 3 started in Luverne 1 ½ years ago.
