Luverne High School celebrates its first Snow Week coronation Wednesday, Jan. 27, naming seniors Hannah Hoogland and Derek Krueger as queen and king respectively.
Last week featured special dress up days and a dance, organized by the student leaders in grades 9-12 and fun winter activities.
Teachers selected eight students as Snow Week royalty based on academic success, leadership and involvement in the school and community. High School Principal Ryan Johnson presided over the 15-minute program conducted in the high school auditorium. Queen candidates included Kaitlyn Roberts, Hoogland, Ryleigh Beers and Susan Thompson. King candidates were Cole Bosch, Erik Wohnoutka, Adam Fodness and Derek Krueger. Johnson used white stocking hats with a cardinal emblem on front and the words “Queen 2016” and “King 2016” printed in red on the back as “crowns.”
Johnson also recognized 21 freshmen through seniors who had 84 days (fall semester 2015) of perfect attendance. Students included Shane Berning, Logan Bosch, Anthony Cavazos, Ariel DeBeer, Jeremiah Dooyema, Ty Lindemann, Di Ma, Kaylie Ossefoort, Nicholas Overgaard, Tanner Reverts, Bailey Rise, Jenna Schelhaas, Bethany Starling, Christopher Syphokham, Jordy Thone, Micheala VanGrootheest, Hannah Ver Steeg, Courtney Wendland, Chase Wiederhoeft, Erik Wohnoutka and Matthew Ziegler. Each student received a $5 gift card to a local restaurant.
