Why is the Star Herald vital to communities in Rock County? Our readers respond:

“Our local Rock County Star Herald prints the pulse of the community. In doing so, readers are informed and enlightened on positive and negative impacts of news happening in our area. Thank you to their dedicated reporters and staff that cover a wide variety of activities that demonstrates the engagement of Rock County citizens from youth activities, community events and government actions.”
— Sherri Thompson,
Luverne (business manager and community leader)

“The Star Herald is the voice of our community. By sharing interesting stories about our people, events and activities, the Star Herald helps build the sense of community that we need to connect people and develop a sense of belonging. Without our local paper, we are just residents and not community.”
— Karen Willers,
Luverne Community Education Director

“I cannot imagine NOT having a subscription to the local newspaper. Being able to read the local news is important, as there are certainly a number of stories I would not be aware of if we did not have a subscription to the Star Herald. I look to local newspapers to provide a reliable and accurate source of information. I also enjoy reading the more personal stories about local happenings/events. We (the Star Herald staff and the citizens of Rock County) all live and work in the same community and we all are impacted by what happens here locally. I also appreciate reading the more personal types of articles. Having a local newspaper with local people involved in that newspaper is extremely important in providing that personal touch and personal perspective to the stories.”
— Eric Hartman,
rural Rock County

Each week the individuals we serve look forward to the newspaper arriving through the mail. For some, paging through all the stories and pictures is the highlight of the week. From a business standpoint, I rely on the local newspaper as my source of information regarding local events, business opportunities and employment opportunities for the individuals we help find employment. The newspaper is also our prime advertising vehicle for employment ads and services we provide. Thank you, everyone at the Star Herald, for all you do.
— Elizabeth Schear, Rock County Opportunities director.

For me it’s really the best way to get consistently reliable, accurate information about what’s going on in Luverne. You hear a lot of hearsay in this town so it’s nice to read factual information in the paper.
— Maggie Siebenahler,
Rock County Opportunities designated coordinator

I appreciate that the Star Herald allows us to celebrate as a group of people the successes in our community. It allows us to know as citizens in Rock County how we can better support and pray for the struggles within our community.
— Shirley Top,
 Kozlowski Insurance

The Star Herald gets local important happenings, events and changes to the area out on time and accurate. … Love the local sports.
— Don Dinger, Luverne

Since 2014 when the Farm Service Agency (FSA) no longer permitted local FSA Offices to write county-specific newsletters, such as the Four-Agency Rock County Ag-News; the Star Herald is the only means that the Rock County FSA Office has to get important Farm Program information out to our farmers and the public.
— Fraser Norton, Rock County Farm Service Agency

The Star Herald is very vital and important to our community. We appreciate the Star Herald to keep us informed of county and local government activity as well as what is happening within our community. Without the local reporting of the Star Herald, we would have to rely on Sioux Falls, Worthington and Minneapolis to report our news and we would only hear what they felt was newsworthy, reducing our news to a small column on the back page. Gone would be the in-depth sports stories of our kids, local stories of interest such as winners at the county fair, retirement of teachers and local progress. Say what you want about local reporting, but without it, we would have limited access in finding out about all that goes on within our vibrant community. The Star Herald brings our community together when good things happen as well as when tragedy occurs. Thank you for working hard to keep our community informed.
— Mike and Wanda Jarchow, Luverne

The Star Herald is an excellent resource for staying informed on local news.  I most enjoy the stories and columns that capture the heart of life and help us connect with our friends and neighbors; of highlighting people's passions and joys, sorrows and struggles.
— Kim Rockman, Luverne

The Star Herald is a weekly treasure.  It keeps everyone informed about what is going on and serves as a part of the history of Rock County. As part of the History Center we have used the past issues for vital historic information and use it as a source for much of our research. Please continue to provide us with this valuable service.
— Dave Smith, History Center

While at times governments and news organizations can be at odds, we need the Star Herald. Our local paper provides a crucial role in not only covering our actions but also informing the public of actions that may impact them.
— Kyle Oldre,
Rock County Administrator

Students love to see their names in the paper about the performances that they had in their respective activity competitions.
— Wade Hiller, Technology Coordinator, Luverne Schools

I appreciate the interest in covering and providing great stories of good things going on in our school system. Lots of good student/teacher accomplishments go on and are never heard of if not for the coverage by the Star Herald.
— Ryan Johnson, Principal, Luverne Middle School and High School
