Employee Work Anniversary: Brooke Huisman

Subhead
4 Years

Brooke Huisman celebrates 4 years at the Star Herald office on May 5. She answered a few questions about her time at the Star Herald.

1.     How did your journey with the Star Herald start?

I was looking for a job with flexibility after having my first child but still wanted to be able to use my creative side.

2.     Can you make a comparison between then and now? What was your role in the beginning, and where are you at right now?

I was a designer then and am a designer now but have additional responsibilities including the addition of Star Media and video production.

3.     What do you consider your biggest achievement?

My biggest achievement has been receiving an ad design award in the Minnesota Newspaper Association Better Newspaper Contest. Also, I have been able to expand my knowledge over the years in graphics and video.

4.     What is your favorite part about working here?

I love being able to be creative, and having co-workers who push me to do more and go outside of my comfort zone allows me to continue to grow and learn.

5.     Share a fun office memory.

Our holiday parties are always fun. They are among one of the few times everyone is at the office at the same time. I also think the process of Star Media coming to life was fun to experience - from the initial idea, to setting up the studio and now the podcast room.

6.     Share something personal about yourself. What do you like to do outside of the office?

I’ve been married to my husband, Dalton, for almost five years and we have two children, Ryder (4) and Nora (almost 2). We have three dogs, a couple cats, goats, horses, cows and chickens. Outside of the office, I do photography and chase around my two kids on our hobby farm.
