Wenzel: Community pulls together in time of need'

Voice of our Readers

To the Editor:
We want to send a huge “Thank You” to all our Rock County residents. Our American Red Cross blood drive on April 7 was an example of how our community pulls together in time of need.
A special thank you to Mike and Wanda Jarchow and their family for opening up their event center so we could utilize a large enough space to keep everyone safe.
A heartfelt thank you to all of our A.C.E. of SW MN volunteers for doing all the calling and sometimes reaching out three or four times to schedule appointments with the donors. As a result our Red Cross account manager was able to secure another technician so we were able to make more appointments.
The results of Luverne Community Blood Drive were as follows:  68 donors, 18 first-time donors (which is awesome), 71 units collected and potential lives saved were 213.
Big thumbs up to Mike Jarchow for donating a roll of toilet paper and Lila from Pizza Ranch for a 20-percent-off coupon to each donor.   Donors could leave the drive with a smile on their face, which helped take some of the tension off of what is going on in our world.
Thank you to all the folks that called or stopped by the day of the drive. We were unable to accept walk-in appointments because of what is happening in our world. We look forward to serving everyone at our next blood drive July 27.
Thank you again, Rock County residents. It makes me so proud to live and serve in this wonderful community.
