Give locally when you 'Give to the Max' on Nov. 19

Subhead
Federal tax credit of $300 available due to pandemic

Nonprofit organizations are at the heart of our communities, but many of our local organizations have canceled fundraiser galas and activities due to the pandemic.
This is not only a loss of social connections, but it represents lost fundraising that would support 2021 projects that strengthen the community.
Nov. 19 is Give to the Max Day, a 24-hour online campaign that supports local nonprofits through GiveMN.org.
This year, we’re encouraging readers to participate in Give to the Max Day and specifically support the Luverne Area Community Foundation, a registered GiveMN.org recipient.
There are no products to buy or donor gifts to receive, but registered organizations do benefit by receiving donations plus bonuses for being part of the statewide fundraising effort.
Not into spending money online?
LACF also accepts in-person donations at 102 E. Main Street in Luverne (next to the Palace) or by mail at P.O. Box 623, Luverne, MN 56156.
This fall it’s especially important to give, because Rock County’s legendary Red Arrow fund drive isn’t happening, and all the organizations Red Arrow typically helps could come up short in their budgets.
LACF’s vision is to “match donor passions through charitable giving.”
The annual fall gala fundraiser for LACF is canceled, with foundation directors instead setting the annual goal of $15,000 with GiveMN.org.
The goal supports the foundation’s Community Grant Fund, which supports projects to improve health care, human services, the environment, education, community development, arts and culture, recreation and nutrition.
And 2020 donations are eligible for a special $300 federal tax credit.
The CARES Act permits this universal tax deduction to taxpayers no matter whether they itemize or take the standard deduction on their taxes.
The $300 is not much, but it’s a small benefit for those who want to help our local nonprofit organizations that could certainly use our financial help.
Give, if you can, on the Give to the Max Day and any day, for that matter. Generosity makes our community better.
