Library offers Fall Story Hour events
Story Hour is open to pre-school children ages 4-5. Story Hour will be from 10 to 11 a.m. every Thursday from Sept. 17 until Nov. 19. Register your child by calling 449-5040.
Laptime Story Hour is open to ages birth-3 with an adult. No registration is required. Laptime Story Hour will be from 10:30 to 11 a.m. every Friday from Sept. 18 until Nov. 20.
 
Blood donation opportunities
•Community Blood Bank will collect blood donations from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21, at the Adrian Ambulance Garage in Adrian. Call 507-483-2668 for appointments or questions.

Friends of the Library book sale Sept. 17-19
Friends of the Library annual book sale is from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17; from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18; and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19. Friends of the Library members are invited to shop from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16.
 
Monthly Food Ministry Sept. 17
The monthly food ministry, sponsored by New Life Celebration Church will be from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, at the Luverne Senior Center. If you’re having trouble putting food on the table, come for fresh produce, bread and meat. Children will be asked to wait outside.
 
Celebrate Palace Theatre’s 100th birthday Sept. 20
The public is invited to a 100th birthday celebration of Luverne’s Palace Theatre at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, with the showing of a silent movie as well as other entertainment. Birthday treats will be served. The event is free, but freewill “birthday gifts” will be accepted for the upkeep of the Palace.
 
Luverne Optimist Club Kids Fishing Derby Sept. 20
Luverne Optimist Club Kids Fishing Derby (ages 5-15) will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, at the Vets Pond at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne. Bring your own fishing pole and tackle or call ahead to reserve a pole. The event is free of charge.
There will be complimentary hotdogs and beverages following the derby along with prizes and drawings for the kids.  (Last year over $500 in prizes were given.) Community Meal Sept. 23
The Free Fourth Wednesday Community Meal will be at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, at the United Methodist Church in Luverne.
 
Sign up for bus trip to National Eagle Center Sept. 28
Luverne Community Education is offering a bus trip to the National Eagle Center in Wabasha on Monday, Sept. 28. The bus will depart the community ed parking lot at 6 a.m. and return at 10 p.m. For more information call 507-283-4795.
 
Good Samaritan Society Founder’s Day Sept. 29
In celebration of Good Samaritan Society Founder’s Day, Good Samaritan Society Luverne will be distributing grabbers and distributing and installing carbon monoxide detectors. If you or someone you know is 65+ or disabled and in need of either a carbon monoxide detector and/or a grabber, please contact Carrie at 507-283-2375 by Monday, Sept. 21. Distribution and installation will take place Thursday, Sept. 24.
 
Combat from Behind the Camera Oct. 2
Nationally known combat photographer Stacy Pearsall will be in Luverne Friday, Oct. 2, to share her story about what combat is like from behind the camera.
She will speak to students in Luverne High School Friday morning, Oct. 2, and will make a public presentation at 7 p.m. Friday in the historic Palace Theatre.
Tickets are $10 for the public but free to veterans. They are available at the Luverne Area Chamber at 283-4061.
 
Hospice Tour of Tables set for Oct. 24
Sanford Luverne Hospice will host its annual Tour of Tables luncheon Saturday, Oct. 24. Contact the hospice office at 283-1805 if you are interested in decorating and hosting a table, donating a gift basket, or purchasing an individual ticket. The deadline is Oct. 1.

ECFE (Early Childhood Family Education) classes begin the week of Sept. 14.
Gentle Yoga and Yoga begin Tuesday, Sept. 15.
Learn exercises and activities to improve strength and movement at Parkinsons and You Wednesday, Sept. 16. Fee is $5.
Flag Football and Volleyball for grades 5-6 begin Sept. 17.
Cheer Camp is for students in grades K-5 who will practice the cheers and then participate in the cheering at the game on Friday, Sept. 18. Fee is $12 and includes student’s ticket to the game.
Gymnastics Camp is Sept. 21-24. On Friday, Sept. 25, there will be tryouts for the competitive gymnastics team for students grades K-6.
Disney Live! Three Classic Fairy Tales will be presented at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul Oct. 18. Register by Sept. 29 for the chartered bus trip. Fee is $67 which includes bus ride and admission.
