Meetings

Vienna Township Board will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, in the Kenneth Community Center.

Beaver Creek Township Board will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 11, in the township hall in Beaver Creek. In case of inclement weather, the meeting will be held via Zoom. Contact the clerk at 507-227-2061 for more details.

Battle Plain Township Board will meet 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 11, in the Edgerton Ag conference room.

 

SAIL Classes in Magnolia

A.C.E. is offering a total of 24 classes on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 1-2 p.m., from now until Feb. 22, at Magnolia Palace (old Magnolia School) 401 W. Luverne Street, Magnolia. For information or to register contact Connie Frahm (507-220-3584) or Diane Strassburg (507-290-0011).

 

BQA/BQA-T, Burgers and Beer

Join the Rock-Nobles Cattlemen Association Wednesday, Dec. 6, at Take 16 for Beef Quality Assurance training for producers and transporters. Registration is at 6 p.m. and supper starts at 6:30 p.m. with a meeting to follow. Cost is free for all Rock-Nobles Cattleman’s Association members. If you are not a member, you may sign up at the door.

 

SHARE distribution set for Dec. 6

SHARE will distribute gifts to Rock County residents in need from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, at the Luverne National Guard Armory at 309 South Freeman Avenue. Holiday choir concert Dec. 7

The Luverne Middle School and High School holiday choir concert will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, in the school performing arts center. The concert will feature the sixth-grade choir, seventh-and-eighth-grade choir, the Cardinal Choir, Treble Choir and the Concert Choirs. Admission will be a monetary donation for the Backpack Program and the Giving Tree. Cash will be accepted as well as checks made out to Luverne Public Schools.

 

Senior nutrition offered Dec. 7

A.C.E. of SW MN will offer its Nutrition Assistance Program for Seniors 60 and older from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, as a drive-thru distribution in the parking lot off Maple Street on the east side of Generations Event Center. Pre-registration is required by calling Linda Wenzel at 507-283-5064.

 

Santa Claus in Hardwick Dec. 9

Hardwick Santa Claus Day is from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, at the Hardwick Community Hall. Mr. Twister is from 2 to 2:30 p.m., Make & Take Crafts from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. and Pictures with Santa from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. The Hardwick Zion Lutheran Church ladies group will host a bake sale with proceeds for the Lucas Dohlmann family who lost their home in Magnolia to a fire.

 

Sanford Health Adrian Clinic vital blood drive Dec. 11

The Sanford Health Adrian Clinic invites the community to participate in a vital blood drive from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 3-5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 11, at the Adrian EMS Building at 310 Main Ave., Adrian. Those willing to donate schedule their appointment by visiting 222.cbblifeblood.org, selecting “events” for Dec. 11, or by calling 605-331-3222. As a token of appreciation, all donors will receive a $10 Subway gift card.

 

Mobile dental clinic in Luverne Dec. 14

The mobile dental clinic will be in Luverne on Thursday, Dec. 14, at the Health And Human Services Community Room on Roundwind Road.
The clinic provides dental care for adults and children ages 0 to 100+. Call 612-746-1530 to schedule an appointment. All forms of insurance are accepted. The clinic is organized by #Luv1LuvAll's Rock County Oral Health Task Force.

 

Donate blood at Red Cross ‘Battle of the Badges’ Dec. 19

Donate blood to the American Red Cross on behalf of your favorite badge — Fire vs Police/EMS from 12 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, in the Fellowship Hall at Living Rock Church in Luverne. Call 1-800-733-2767 or visit RedCrossBlood.org and enter: LuverneMN to schedule an appointment.

Defensive Driving schedule for Luverne classes follows: Refresher 4-Hour Class –Dec. 11; Beginner 8-Hour Class  Feb. 5 and 12 (4 hours each evening).

Snowmobilers need a safety training course to operate a snowmobile
anywhere in Minnesota, including private land. Register by Dec. 6
for the outdoor portion of Snowmobile Safety to be held on Dec. 16. Plan to do the online portion ($29.95 online) prior to coming for the outdoor portion. Outdoor portion cost is $10.

Christmas themed cookies
like a professional at B's Bakehouse on Dec. 11.  Fee is $35.

Want to surprise a loved one with a gift made specially by you? Students K-6 can get creative at Make and Take Holiday Gift on Dec. 9. Fee is $26.

Whip up some holiday fun with a morning of Christmas music, fresh
coffee, and lots of baking at Christmas Cookie Exchange on Dec. 9.
Fee is $53 and includes all ingredients.

Students in Grades K-3 can get creative while making winter themed craft projects at Crafty Kids Creations on Dec. 12. Use your
projects as gifts for family or friends! Fee is $13.

Would you like some studio time to work with a clay project with assistance from an instructor? Participants who attended grade 5 through adult are welcome to reserve Open Studio two hour blocks of
time on December 16
. Fee is $25 and covers all materials, glaze and firing!

Students (grades 1-5) will follow along with the  instructor step by step to create a painting at Paint & Snack class on Dec. 18. Fee is $35.

Students (grades K – 3) can learn about Crafty Canines from a Blue
Mound State Park Naturalist on Dec. 19. Fee is $5. **Date change from brochure.

Fourth-graders can receive a free one-year National Parks pass. The pass is good from Sept. 1-Aug. 31 of the fourth-grade year. Visit the website http://everykidoutdoors.gov/index.htm

Books on Tap takes place at 6:30 p.m. the first Monday of each month at Take 16 in Luverne.

The 50 State Challenge for adults and older teens is currently underway where patrons are encouraged to read a book set in one of each of the 50 states through Jan. 1, 2024.

Trivia Night is at 7 p.m. the first Thursday of every month at Take 16 in Luverne. Team registration is at 6 p.m.

 

Census info needed for preschoolers

Families new to the community are encouraged to call Luverne Community Education at 507-283-4724 with information on children ages 0 up to kindergarten.

The district uses the information for planning purposes and to alert families about school opportunities. Families with 4-year-olds not yet screened for preschool should call to schedule a screening prior to kindergarten.

 

Food Shelf evening hours

The Rock County Food Shelf is open for an additional evening shift from 5 to 6 p.m. the first and third Thursdays of the month. Call Mary at 507-227-5548 or Katie at 507-227-3531.

 

A.C.E. respite care available, volunteers needed

A.C.E. of SW Minnesota (A.C.E.) offers respite care services in Rock County for those needing a break from caring for a loved one.

The respite program offers short-term (1-3 hours), temporary care for families and caregivers by providing a brief period of reprieve from the daily cares they provide to their loved one.

Volunteers provide non-professional supportive services to caregivers to give them time for themselves, relieve their stress and help them remain healthy.

Respite care volunteers are also needed. Trained A.C.E. volunteers provide respite care to family caregivers of adults age 60 and older who are suffering from long-term health conditions.

CoffeeBreak Storyhour meets Tuesdays

CoffeeBreak meets at 9:30 a.m. each Tuesday to study the Bible, starting with Mark 9-16. StoryHour is for children 3 years old through kindergarten. Nursery is available for the littlest ones.
