Meetings
Grand Prairie Cemetery Association will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, at the Grand Prairie Cemetery. In case of rain, the meeting will be in the back room of Orv and Sons Plumbing in Ellsworth.
Green Earth Players annual meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, in the Green Earth Players building at 401 W. Edgehill St., Luverne.
Luverne Area MOMS meet monthly during the school year on the second Wednesday morning of each month. Mothers of young children interested in meeting with other moms are invited. Hwy. 15 closed for bridge construction
Rock County Highway 15 (61st Street) will be closed 1 1/2 miles east of Kanaranzi for new bridge construction over Kanaranzi Creek. Construction began Aug. 9, and a signed detour will be in place during the 10 to 14 weeks of construction. For more information contact engineer Mark Sehr at 507-283-5010.
 
Donate books for Friends of the Library book sale
The Friends of the Library are collecting books for their upcoming book sale event until Monday, Sept. 12, at the Rock County Library during normal business hours. Encyclopedias, textbooks and Reader’s Digest will not be accepted.
 
Friends of the Library book sale set for Sept. 15-17
Friends of the Library book sale will be from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17. Books cost $2 per bag. Friends of the Library can shop early from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14. All books will be free during business hours from Sept. 26 through Oct. 1.
 
Commuity Ed offers bus to State Fair
Spend a day at the Minnesota State Fair on Aug. 29. Let Community Education do the driving and the parking, you just enjoy the experience. Cost of $65 covers bus and fair ticket. Bus will have pickup spots in Luverne and Worthington. Call 283-4724 (office is closed on Fridays).
 
Luverne School District #2184 registration for 2016-2017 school year
New residents to Luverne School District #2184 should come to respective school offices and register students for school year 2016-2017.
The High School/Middle School Office is open for new students to register. Call 507-283-4491 to make an appointment for grades 6-12.
The Elementary Office is now open for new students to register. Parents of elementary students grades K-5 can call 507-283-4497.
School starts Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2016.
 
Afternoon Escape movie Aug. 25
The Palace Theatre will show “Eddie the Eagle” as the Afternoon Escape movie at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25. Admission is $5. The event is sponsored by Hartquist Funeral Home and Sterling’s Café and Grille.
 
Tuff Home Car Show planned for Aug. 30
The Tuff Memorial Home in Hills will sponsor its annual car show from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30.
This year will feature a family picnic with loaded hotdogs, chips, cookies and beverage for a freewill donation. The proceeds will be used for the purchase of a new facility van.
Root beer floats will also be available along with raffle tickets for a patriotic quilt donated by the Kirsch family.
 
Highway 269 near Jasper closed through Aug. 28
Highway 269 near Jasper will be closed in both directions from Aug. 24 through Aug. 28 for BNSF traffic signal maintenance at the railroad crossing. The detour will take motorists north on 30th Avenue/County Road 13 and then east on 41st Street.
The project is anticipated to be complete and the road opened by the end of the day Aug. 28.
 
Museum closed for move to History Center
The Rock County Museum on North Freeman Avenue is now closed in order to move displays to the new History Center opening this fall in downtown Luverne. The Rock County Historical Society can still be reached at 283-2122 and at rcmuseum@gmail.com.

Wood sculpture exhibit display exended to Aug. 29
The wood sculpture exhibit by sculptor Fred Cogelow of Willmar has been extended to Aug. 29, due to its popularity. It can be seen at the Brandenburg Gallery at 213 East Luverne Street, Luverne, through Aug. 29.
Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 507-283-1884 with questions.
 
Respite care available
for caregivers
Respite care is available for caregivers who need a break to maintain their own physical and emotional health. Respite services provide temporary comfort, supervision and care for loved ones to give caregivers time for other responsibilities. Farmers Market open Thursdays
The Luverne Farmers Market is now open for business from 4-7 p.m. Thursdays at Redbird Field. Farmers Market continues Thursdays through October 26. Watch for the signs on Main Street.

Discovery Time Preschool has openings in the Tuesday/Thursday afternoon class. Register now. Early Learning Scholarships that cover the entire tuition for the year are available to qualifying families with 3- and 4-year-old children. Call 283-4724.
Families, daycares, and visitors are invited to play and learn in the Nature Explore Outdoor Classroom. The classroom, designed for preschoolers to learn by discovery and exploration, is located on the southwest corner of school property. Engraved brick pavers line the path into the classroom and are sold to cover costs for upkeep and new materials.
