"Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many." Matthew 7:13 ESV
Lars decided to fly to Norway to visit relatives and took a seat in the first class section at the very front of the plane. Soon another passenger came up to him and said, "Sir, you are sitting in my seat." But Lars refused to move.
One of the stewardesses said to Lars, "I'm sorry, sir, but you will have to move. This seat belongs to someone else. You need to go to the back of the plane."
"You do not understand," said Lars. "I am going to visit relatives in Norway. I need to stay in de front seat so I can get der quicker."
Finally the pilot walked over to Lars and whispered something in his ear. Lars replied, "Ya, sure, you betcha," and immediately moved to his own assigned seat.
"How did you do that?" asked the stewardess.
"Easy," said the pilot. "I just told him that this seat wasn't going to Norway."
In the book of Matthew, Jesus gives us the analogy of two gates, a wide one and a narrow one. He says that the wide, easy one leads to destruction and the narrow one leads to eternal life.
The life of faith and truth won't always be easy. But the rewards for believing in Christ and a life well lived will last for all of eternity. The gate we choose will make all the difference. Jesus said that most people choose the wide gate, living however they want. He encourages us to "Enter by the narrow gate."
Lord Jesus, when You were here on earth, You didn't live an easy comfortable life. Even though You could have had legions of angels at your beck and call, You chose instead to give Your life as a ransom for us. Teach us, lead us and guide us so that we will live for You, on earth and for all of eternity. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
