Wenninger wins annual Cardinal Pride competition

The results are in. Luverne High School senior Cade Wenninger is the winner of the annual “Cardinal Pride” competition. The yearly event challenges the athletes to be in the best shape possible.
Wenninger passed that test with flying colors, finishing with a total score of 1,669.45.
The senior was first in the bench press (256 points), cleans (182.85 points), squats (429.75 points) and the power press (259.65 points).
Arekel McLaughlin placed second by accumulating 1,602.55 points. McLaughlin took top honors in the 400-meter dash (198 points) and the shuttle run (223 points).
LaShad Smith finished third overall with 1,407.15 points. Casey Sehr was fourth with a total of 1,184 points, and Zach Kruse finished fifth with a total of 1,179.125 points.
Jack Schlosser won the jump roping competition with a score of 171. Gavyn Boll won the vertical with a score of 136.
Zach Ahrendt took top honors in four events. He won the bench max with 275 points and the max cleans with a score of 245.625. In the max squats he finished with the score of 425.25 and the max power press 208.125.
The Cardinals will hit the field for the first time on Oct. 9 against Pipestone Area in Pipestone.
