Volleyball team drops matches against Pipestone Area and Windom

The Luverne Cardinals girls’ volleyball team failed to break into the win column last week, dropping a pair of matches.
The Cardinals were swept by the Pipestone Area Arrows on Tuesday, Oct. 13, in Luverne. They then lost a tight contest to Windom, 3-2, on Thursday, Oct. 15.
The Cardinals were overpowered during their home opener against the Arrows. Luverne dropped the first set of the match 25-14.
It was all Arrows in the second set of the match. The visiting team bested the Cardinals 25-11.
In the third and final set the Arrows came out on top 25-15.
Kamryn VanBatavia and Elise Ferrell both recorded four kills to lead the Cardinals.
Trista Baustian recorded two blocks. She also led the team with 10 digs.
In the second match of the week Luverne fell to Windom 3-2.
The Cardinals won a back-and-forth affair in the opening set, 25-23. The second set was more of the same with the Eagles taking the second set 28-26 to tie the match at 1-1.
Windom won the third set 25-17. It was all Luverne in the fourth set, as the visiting team won 25-13 to force a fifth set.
Windom won the fifth set 15-12 to drop the Cardinals to 0-3 on the young season.
Baustian recorded 26 assists for the Cardinals.
VanBatavia and Gracie Zewiske both recorded 11 kills to lead the Luverne attack. Zewiske also recorded six solo blocks.
Macy Stratton and VanBatavia both finished the match with 21 digs. Stratton led the Cardinals with three aces from the service line.
