The Hills-Beaver Creek Patriots did what they wanted, when they wanted, on Friday, Nov. 6, in their football game against Granada-Huntley-East Chain-Truman.
The top-ranked Patriots improved to 5-0 on the season with a 50-0 victory.
The Patriots jumped on GHEC-T early and never took their foot off the gas, scoring 24 points in the first quarter.
“We deferred the coin toss and forced GHEC-T to go into the wind during the first quarter,” H-BC head coach Rex Metzger said.
“With them being a predominately passing team, we were able to force them into some early punting situations. We were able to jump on them early.”
Gavin Wysong opened scoring with a three-yard rushing touchdown. The Patriots scored on the two-point conversion when Gavin Wysong connected with Zander Wysong to give the Patriots an 8-0 lead.
Tyson Bork followed up on Wysong’s touchdown with a two-yard rushing touchdown. Gavin Wysong converted the two-point conversion to give H-BC a 16-0 lead.
Bork scored his second touchdown of the game on an eight-yard rushing touchdown.
Gavin Wysong found paydirt for the second time in the game when he scored on a five-yard rushing touchdown to open up a 30-0 lead.
Wysong made it a hat trick when he scored on a 13-yard rushing touchdown. The Patriots converted the two-point conversion when Wysong connected with Oliver Deelstra.
Wysong scored his fourth touchdown of the game on a 17-yard rushing touchdown to put the Patriots up 44-0.
Wysong, the senior quarterback for H-BC, scored his fifth touchdown of the game when he scored on another 17-yard rushing touchdown to put H-BC up 50-0.
In five games the H-BC defense has given up just 14 points. The shutout of GHEC-T was the team’s third shutout of the season.
“Defensively we were able to get after their quarterback and force them into some third and long situations,” Rex Metzger said. “We had five quarterback sacks and created five turnovers, which was the difference in the game.”
Donovan Leenderts recorded six tackles and one sack. Tory Knobloch recorded five tackles and one sack.
Chase Bosch recorded two tackles, one sack, recovered one fumble, and notched a safety.
Cole Baker recorded two tackles, recovered one fumble, and picked off two passes.
Austin Allen and Zander Wysong both recorded one sack. Alex Harris and Brayden Metzger both recorded three tackles.
The Patriots will look to wrap up their perfect regular season at home on Thursday, Nov. 12, against Mountain Lake Area.
