The Hills-Beaver Creek football team continued its early season success on Friday, Oct. 23, with a 54-8 victory over Westbrook-Walnut Grove.
With the win the Patriots improved to 3-0 on the season. They’ve now outscored their opponents 146-14 through three games.
Gavin Wysong got the scoring started for the Patriots in the first quarter. The senior quarterback scampered for a 45-yard rushing touchdown. Tyson Bork converted the two-point conversion to put the Patriots up 8-0.
In the second quarter the Patriots’ offense exploded for 30 points to build a 38-0 lead.
Bork got the scoring barrage started with an 81-yard rushing touchdown. Gavin Wysong converted the two-point conversion to build H-BC’s lead to 16-0.
Bork scored his second touchdown of the game with a three-yard rushing touchdown. Gavin Wysong once again converted the two-point conversion to give the Patriots a 24-0 lead.
Gavin Wysong got his first passing touchdown of the quarter when he connected with Ty Bundesen for a 28-yard play.
Wysong hooked up with Casey Kueter on the two-point conversion to give the Patriots a 32-0 lead.
The Patriots wrapped up the scoring in the second quarter when Gavin Wysong connected with Bork on a 47-yard pass to put the Patriots up 38-0. H-BC was unable to convert the two-point conversion.
“We were able to create a couple of big plays in our passing game,” H-BC head coach Rex Metzger said. “We were able to stay a little more balanced.”
Gavin Wysong got the scoring started in the second half with a 30-yard rushing touchdown. Oliver Deelstra was able to connect with Zander Wysong for the two-point conversion to give the Patriots a 46-0 lead.
The Chargers got on the board in the third quarter when they scored on a four-yard passing touchdown. WWG converted the two-point conversion to make it a 46-8 game.
H-BC’s Drew Leenderts wrapped up the scoring in the fourth quarter when he scored on a 15-yard rushing touchdown. Gideon Taubert converted the two-point conversion.
The Patriots held the Chargers to seven first downs and under 100 passing yards.
Metzger said he was pleased with his team’s effort on defense.
“WWG came into the game with the top passing game in the district,” Metzger said. “We were able to limit them to under 100 passing.”
With such a huge lead to start the second half, the Patriots were able to get some of the younger players on the roster valuable playing time. Metzger said they did a great job of coming in and playing at a high level.
“Our young guys got some playing time in the second half,” Metzger said. “It was fun to see them fly around.”
The Patriots will look to remain undefeated when they travel to Edgerton on Friday, Oct. 30, to take on the Flying Dutchmen. H-BC defeated Edgerton earlier this season 56-6.
