Luverne and Hills-Beaver Creek track and field teams traveled to Montevideo Thursday, June 1, for the MSHSL Section 3A Championships.
Luverne qualified for state competition in 15 separate events, with 28 athletes in total moving on.
The Cardinals will also send Reinha John as an alternate in the 4-by-400 meter relay and 4-by-800 meter relay and Isabela Oye as an alternate in the 4-by-400 meter relay.
“I thought the kids had another great night and competed hard, challenged limits, and did their very best,” said LHS head coach Pete Janiszeski.
“Anytime you qualify 21 kids for the state meet, it’s a tremendous testament to the kids and all of the work they pour into the season.”
The Luverne girls’ track team took first place with 114.5 team points, and the boys’ team placed second (80 team points), falling to Montevideo (81 team point).
The H-BC Patriots girls’ track team placed 10th overall with 28 team points, and the boys’ team placed 20th with 7 total team points.
“Our team performed well and had some good performances in both our boys’ and girls’ events,” said H-BC head coach Rex Metzger.
“Brynn Bakken had a great day, advancing to the state meet in three individual events.”
The 2023 Class A State Track and Field Tournament will be June 8-9 at St. Michael-Albertville High School in St. Michael.
Prelims will be Thursday, June 8. The Class A finals will be Friday, June 9.
