The Hills-Beaver Creek golf teams competed in their first Red Rock Conference meets of the year Thursday when the girls traveled to Westbrook and the boys competed in Fulda.
The girls’ team was incomplete, but Tess VanMaanen placed eighth overall with an 18-hole score of 96.
H-BC senior Danette Leenderts shot a 110. Brielle Vis from Southwest Christian is the girls’ leader after the first conference meet with a score of 90.
“It went well for both teams,” said coach Dan Ellingson. “Tess and Danette shot season lows for 18 holes on the girls’ side in cool, windy conditions.”
Senior Jacob Axness led the way for the Patriots by shooting an 18-hole score of 91. This score was good enough to place him in the Top 5 of the conference.
The next four Patriots were seniors Austin Allen (95), Ethan Kruger (98), Dallas Page (103) and Daniel Martinyuk (106).
As a team the Patriot boys are currently in third place with a score of 387. Adrian/Ellsworth leads the way with a score of 361.
Ellingson said he was pleased with how the boys did as a team Thursday.
“The boys shot their season low team score,” he said. “Jacob also shot his season low to receive a medal, fifth place individually. The boys played through two lightning delays in Fulda.”
Sawyer Drent from HLOF/WWG led all scorers with a score of 82.
The next conference meet for both girls and boys will be Wednesday. The girls will travel to Sanborn while the boys’ teams will golf in Slayton.
