Patriots drop three competitive matches; fall to 3-5 overall

The Adrian-Ellsworth Dragons volleyball team tripped up the Hills-Beaver Creek Patriots on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 3-0. The visiting Patriots ran into a well-oiled machine, failing to score over 13 points in any of the three sets.
The Dragons took the first set 25-13. The second set was more of the same with H-BC falling 25-10. In the third and final set, it was the Dragons completing the sweep 25-12.
Abby Knobloch led the Patriots with three kills. She added five digs. Emma Kodet also recorded five digs. Annie Bos recorded seven assists.
A week prior to their latest matchup against Murray County Central on Oct. 29, the Patriots defeated the Rebels 3-1. It was a match that saw the Patriots come back to beat the Rebels after losing the first set.
The rematch saw the tables turn in Hills. This time it was the Patriots winning the first set and the Rebels coming back to win the next three sets to beat H-BC 3-1.
In the opening set, the Rebels tallied the first two points. The Patriots answered back to score the next five to take a 5-2 lead. It was a lead they wouldn’t relinquish the rest of the set as they went on to win the first set 25-18.
Kenadie Fick led the Patriots with three kills in the opening set. Taryn Rauk, Abby Knobloch, and Taylor Durst all recorded two kills.
The Rebels never trailed in the second set. The visitors took the set 25-16 to even the match at 1-1.
Knobloch and Rauk both recorded two kills in the set to lead the Patriots. Emma Kodet recorded one ace.
The third set was a back and forth affair. With the two teams tied at 2-2, the Patriots scored four straight to open up a 6-2 lead.
The Rebels answered back by going on a 7-1 run to take a 9-7 lead. H-BC reclaimed the lead at 16-13. With the teams once again tied at 18-18, the Rebels closed out the third set by going on a 7-2 run to win 25-20.
In the fourth set, the Rebels appeared to be on their way to cruising to victory. MCC jumped out to a 10-3 lead and was in total control of the set.
The Patriots slowly chipped away at the lead and eventually tied it up at 19-19. From there, madness ensued with neither team being able to pull away.
With the set tied at 23-23, the Patriots scored the next point to take a 24-23 lead. The Rebels scored the next point to keep the set alive at 24-24.
The two teams traded points and we’re back to even at 25-25. The back and forth continued until the Patriots trailed 29-28. That’s when the Rebels finally closed out the set with a 30-28 victory to win the match 3-1.
