Luverne's Shelby Kracht commits to play softball at Dordt University

For as long as she can remember Shelby Kracht has had a glove in one hand and a bat in the other.
The Luverne High School senior has long enjoyed the game of softball, which has opened the door to endless possibilities for her.
She said it’s also led to a lot of great friendships along the way.
“There are a lot of things I like about softball,” Kracht said. “Even during the summer, I play on a summer softball team. I like getting to know the other girls and meeting new people.”
Kracht will get the chance to continue playing softball at Dordt University after she graduates from Luverne.
At Dordt she’ll play mostly third base on the diamond, and she’ll study animal science in the classroom.
“I picked Dordt for a number of reasons,” Kracht said. “It’s pretty close to home. It’s a Christian college, which is nice. It’s got animal science. I have plans to attend Iowa State University to get my doctorate to hopefully become a veterinarian.”
Kracht, like many prep athletes, was robbed of a spring season in 2020 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
She sad words can’t describe how excited she is to take to the field with her teammates for the first time this spring.
“I’m really excited to get back on the field with my teammates,” Kracht said.
“Our goal this season is to win as many games as we can and get as far as we can. When I graduate I’ll really miss playing with my teammates.”
