The Luverne wrestling team lost in the team section meet on Tuesday, March 9.
The Cardinals lost to Fairmont-Martin County West 74-0 and will now turn their attention to the individual section tournament in Redwood Falls on Tuesday, March 16.
This season was a battle for the Luverne wrestling team with COVID-19 and all the uncertainty surrounding the schedule, but Luverne head coach Jordan Kopp said he’s proud of the way his team came through it all.
“This season has been a tough one, but I feel we accomplished a lot in a short time,” Kopp said. “We were able to get a couple team wins and a couple ties that we lost due to too many forfeits.”
The season consisted of twice a week duals, sometimes three a week.
“Everyone was able to stay healthy for the most part,” he said. “We lost a couple to injuries, but the wrestlers I thought did really well overall for the season with what we faced this year.”
Kopp said he’s unsure of what the individual section tournament will bring, but he hopes his wrestlers give it all as they attempt to qualify for the state tournament.
“I just hope the guys come out aggressive against whomever they wrestle,” Kopp said. “I hope they wrestle hard and go after their dreams.”
