Luverne’s boys’ and girls’ track and field teams won the Big South Championship in Blue Earth Monday, May 15.
The Cardinals claimed 13 first-place finishes, nine second places and four third-place medals at the meet, in addition to 42 other athletes placing in the Top 10.
The Cardinals beat six other schools in the conference to claim the title.
The Luverne boys’ team placed first with 136 total team points, followed by Jackson County Central with 103, Redwood Valley with 93, Pipestone Area with 81, Windom Area with 78, St. James Area with 70 and Blue Earth Area with 44 total points.
The LHS girls’ team placed first with 156.5 total team points, followed by Jackson County Central with 134, Redwood Valley with 99, Pipestone Area with 81, Windom Area with 58, Blue Earth Area with 53.5 and St. James Area with 29 total points.
The next Luverne track and field event is scheduled to be at Stillwater Saturday, May 20.
