Luverne softball team wins two games, drops one

The Luverne High School softball team played three games in the past week, winning two and losing one.
The Cardinals lost to the Arrows 21-1 in Pipestone Tuesday, May 2, and they came back to win a doubleheader in Redwood Valley 15-4 and 15-6 Thursday, May 4.
The 5-6 Cardinals were scheduled to host Windom Tuesday, May 9, and they’ll travel to Blue Earth Thursday, May 11, and to Marshall Saturday, May 13.
 
Pipestone 21, LHS 1
The Cardinals fell 21-1 to Pipestone in four innings on the road Tuesday, May 2.
Luverne struggled to contain the Arrows’ offense and committed 10 errors in the game.
Pipestone had 16 hits, 16 RBIs and had only one player strike out.
LHS had four hits in the game, two by Amira Cowell and one each by Ella Reisdorfer and Carly Olson.
Gracie Nath started on the mound for Luverne, going 1 1/3 innings, allowing six hits and ten runs while striking out one Arrows batter.

The Cardinals shone in the Redwood Valley batter’s box Thursday, May 4, with 16 hits and 14 RBIs.
Olson led the Luverne  offense with a triple in the first, single in the second, double in the third and a single in the seventh inning.
Tori Serie added a spark hitting an inside-the-park home run on a fly ball to center field in the sixth inning.
Elizabeth Smidt helped LHS with four runs in the game and one RBI.
Nath went the full seven innings on the mound facing 32 batters.
She was credited with the victory, allowing nine hits and four runs, striking out ten and walking one.

The Luverne Cardinals found themselves down 6-3 after the third inning in the second game of the Redwood Valley tournament on May 4.
In the fourth inning LHS took the game over, scoring four runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and seven in the sixth inning.
Anika Boll led Luverne by scoring two runs on two hits and driving in four RBIs.
Reisdorfer crossed the plate three times, stole one base and added one RBI for LHS.
Cowell started on the mound, going three innings, allowing nine hits and six runs and striking out two batters.
Nath took the win, pitching four innings, not allowing any runs while striking out five and no walks.
