The Redbirds hosted the Tea Steam Wednesday, July 19, winning 16-3 in 6 1/2 innings.

The Steam was Luverne’s last game of the regular season this year.

In the top of the first inning, Tea scored one run on a fly ball to left field that dropped just in front of Phil Paquette scoring a runner on third base.

The Redbirds tied the game in the bottom of the first when Ben Serie stole home on an error by the catcher.

In the second inning Luverne added four more runs. Declan Beers singled to score Cade Wenninger, a Casey Sehr single scored Derek Lundgren, and Skyler Wenninger grounded out to drive in Sehr.

In the third inning Nick Smith crossed home on a passed ball at home, and Paquette scored on a Cade Wenninger single.

The Redbirds extended their 7-1 lead by eight in the fifth inning, deflating any hope the Steam might have had to get back in the game.

Skyler Wenninger started the scoring drive with a deep single to left field scoring Lundgren and Jake Haugen.

Serie tripled on the next at-bat, driving in Sehr and Skyler Wenninger.

Smith grounded out to second base, scoring Serie.

Beers tripled on a line drive to right field to bring in Ethan Beyer, Cade Wenninger and Mark Sterrett.

Beyer drove in one last run in the sixth inning, batting into a fielder’s choice to the shortstop to score Connor Overgaard from third.

Cade Wenninger took the mound for the Redbirds, pitching two innings, allowing one run on two hits, and striking out four batters.

Haugen came in to relieve Wenninger, going two innings, allowing no hits, striking out three batters.

Beyer pitched one inning, allowing no runs on one hit and striking out two batters.

Serie finished the game pitching two innings, allowing two runs on two hits and striking out four batters.

At the game, the Redbirds debuted their new cream-colored uniforms designed by team manager Brooks Maurer.

Fan reactions were positive and the players said they liked the lighter, cooler material.
