Three members of the Luverne High School Class of 2020 played three games at CHS Field in St. Paul as part of the 2020 Senior Class Salute.
Colby Crabtree, Quinn Buss and Jacob VonTersch wore Cardinal uniforms one last time July 21 and 27 while playing on the home field of the St. Paul Saints.
The trio joined Class of 2020 players from Adrian, Edgerton, Worthington and New Ulm to form one of 24 teams competing in the first ever tournament.
The St. Paul Saints hosted the event in order to give seniors who lost their final season of high school baseball due to the pandemic the opportunity to play on the minor-league field in downtown St. Paul.
“It’s a beautiful field to play on and it’s fun meeting some other seniors from different towns,” VonTersch said.
The team defeated a team made up of players from the Southeast Conference 5-2 in their first game July 21 before being defeated 7-0 by a Tomahawk Conference team in the second game of the day.
On Monday the team returned to CHS Field and lost to Team Minnesota 6-4.
“It was awesome to play on such a nice field against some tough competition,” Buss said.
“It definitely didn’t make up for a lost senior year, but it was a great experience.”
