LHS softball blanked by Worthington

The Luverne Cardinals softball team entered the week on a four-game winning streak. During that four-game stretch, the Cardinals outscored their opponents 43-12 to bring their overall record to 8-7.
That winning streak came to a screeching halt on Tuesday, May 11, when the Cardinals’ bats went cold against the Worthington Trojans.
The visiting Trojans held the Cardinals to just one hit to pick up the 13-0 victory.
The Trojans jumped on the Cardinals right away by scoring five runs in the first inning.
Worthington added one more run in the second to take a 6-0 lead into the third inning.
In the top of the fourth inning the Trojans scored two more runs to take a commanding 8-0 lead.
Worthington scored five runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 13-0 lead.
The Cardinals were overmatched at the plate, as Worthington’s starting pitcher recorded 14 strikeouts.
Billi Connell recorded the lone hit for the Cardinals.
The Cardinals will look to start a new winning streak on Tuesday, May 18, when they travel to Adrian to take on Adrian/Ellsworth.
Luverne defeated the Dragons earlier this season 6-4.
Luverne will wrap up the week on Thursday, May 20, when it hosts Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian.
The Cardinals defeated Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian 7-6 earlier this season.
