LHS boys' golf team wraps up regular season

The Hills-Beaver Creek girls’ and boys’ golf teams traveled to Worthington Tuesday for their fourth and final Red Rock Conference meet of the season.
Senior Tess Van Maanen placed first overall for the third straight day with an 18-hole score of 92. Her lowest two-score total remained at 176, which was good enough to win the conference by nine strokes over the second-place finisher at 185.
Senior Danette Leenderts shot a 122 for the Lady Pates. Her current lowest two-round score was 228, which placed her 15th in the conference. 
The Patriot boys came away with a third-place finish in the Red Rock Conference.
Senior Austin Allen shot a 98 on his last day. His lowest two-round score was a 180, which gave him a fifth-place finish in the conference.
Patriot seniors Dallas Page (103), Ethan Kruger (104), Jacob Axness (118), and Daniel Martinyuk (103) contributed to the H-BC team’s results on the final day.
Axness was the other Top 15 finisher in the conference for the Patriots, finishing 14th.
The boys’ team total after four days of conference golf was 1245, just 54 strokes back from the first-place finishers Adrian/Ellsworth at 1191.
 
Patriot golfers compete in Adrian
The Hills-Beaver Creek girls’ and boys’ golf teams traveled to Adrian Thursday afternoon, May 19, for a nine-hole matchup against Adrian/Ellsworth.
“The boys’ team lost to the conference champs in the last meet before the section meet. Tess Van Maanen had her lowest nine-hole score ever with a 39,” said coach Dan Ellingson. “Our seniors are playing well and our goal is to play the second day of sections.”
Van Maanen placed first overall for the day with her 39, five strokes better than the second-place finisher. Eighth-grader Abigayl Olson finished in seventh place for the Lady Pates with a 58 while senior Danette Leenderts came in ninth with a 62.
The Patriot boys lost to the Dragons by a score of 177-192. Seniors Daniel Martinyuk and Dallas Page led the way for H-BC by shooting 46s. Jacob Axness shot a 47 while Austin Allen shot a 53.
The Patriots are now preparing for the section golf meet in Worthington on Wednesday, May 25.
