Due to Covid-19, the Minnesota State High School League opted not to hold state tournament events this year for fall sports.
A two-day showcase in Atwater at the Island Pine Golf Club served as a de facto cross country state tournament.
With all the top runners from the state attending, the event provided a chance for the Luverne cross country team to compete against the best of the best.
A total of 91 individuals competed in the girls’ small class competition, and the Cardinals had two runners finish in the Top Five.
Tenley Nelson finished in second place with a time of 19:16.9 behind first-place runner Jade Rypkema of Nevis, who recorded a time of 18:57.4.
Jenna DeBates closed out her freshman campaign with a fourth-place finish with a time of 19:22.7.
Brooklynn Ver Steeg recorded a time of 21:05.0 to place 28th. Regan Feit finished right behind her in 29th place with a time of 21:05.3.
Elizabeth Wagner crossed the finish line with a time of 21:13.3 to finish 32nd.
Grace Ingebretson finished 41st with a time of 21:32.5. Kayla Bloemendaal placed 54th with a time of 22:06.2.
Camden Janiszski was scheduled to compete in the event, but was unable to attend due to illness.
