LHS 16, JCC 5
The Luverne baseball team brought the wood against Jackson County Central Tuesday, April 25, beating the Huskies 16-5 on the road
“The bats came alive, and we attacked the plate,” head coach Phil Paquette said. “Our awareness on the bases helped produce 16 runs.”
Luverne opened the game scoring two runs on four hits with two errors on JCC’s third baseman.
In the second inning the Cardinals extended their lead when junior Jacob Stroh reached base on a fly ball error in left, scoring sophomore Marcus Vortherms and senior Riley Sneller.
Luverne scored again when junior Will Serie doubled, driving in Stroh from second and junior Conner Connell from first base.
The Cardinals closed the second inning with a 6-1 lead.
Luverne went on to add one run in the third and one in the fourth innings.
At the top of the sixth inning Serie scored from third on a wild pitch by the Huskies, junior Elliot Domagala scored from third on a dropped third strike to Vortherms, and junior Patrick Kroski scored on an error by the catcher.
At the end of the sixth inning, Luverne had an 11-2 cushion with one inning to play.
In the top of the seventh, the Cardinals drove in five more runs, scoring Sneller on a catcher error. Stroh scored on a single by Serie, Connell scored on an error by the left fielder for JCC, Series scored on a Kroski ground ball, and Domagala scored on a fielder’s choice to the short stop.
At the bottom of the seventh the Huskies were able to drive in three runs but fell short in catching the Cardinals.

LHS 6, Windom 4
Luverne picked up another win at home Thursday, April 27, with a 6-4 victory over Windom.
“We got great starting pitching and made the plays we needed to defensively,” Paquette said.
“We produced six runs in the game with some timely hitting and a two-run homer from our starting pitcher Jacob Stroh.”
Stroh had a good day at bat, scoring one run on two hits and driving in three runs in the game.
In the top of the third inning, Windom was caught trying to steal home.
LHS shortstop Sehr grabbed a grounder and immediately threw it to Landon Ahrendt at home, and he ran down the Windom player trying to get back to third base.
Connell was able to get a double for Luverne in the bottom of the fifth inning that advanced Serie to third.
Stroh started on the mound for Luverne. He allowed seven hits and four runs over 6 1/3 innings, striking out five batters.

LHS 11, Worthington 1
The Cardinals took care of Worthington in five innings, winning 11-1 at home Monday, May 1.
The Luverne bats came alive against the Trojans.
The Cardinals had six hits total with Zach DeBoer and Serie posting one double each.
Connell added one triple, and at the bottom of the fifth inning, sophomore Layke Miller drove a fly ball to right field for a homer that also scored Serie.
Every player on the LHS roster except Stroh had at least one run in the game.
Worthington had several costly errors, wild pitches and  struck batters in the game, and Luverne was able to take full advantage of them.
DeBoer was the starting pitcher for LHS. He went four innings with no hits or runs, striking out four batters.
Ahrendt came in to pitch in relief in the fifth inning. He allowed three hits and one run.
