Cardinals baseball team defeats Trojans 9-2

The Luverne High School baseball team upped its record to 12-6 by defeating the Worthington Trojans Tuesday, May 17, at Redbird Field. 
The Cardinals were scheduled to play their final regular season game at Murray County Central in Slayton Tuesday after this edition of the Star Herald went to press. 
LHS will open the Section 3AA playoffs on Saturday with the opponent and location to be determined. 
The first two rounds of play will be at the high seeds on Saturday with round three games being played on Tuesday. 
Against Worthington, the Cards had a balanced offensive effort, scoring runs in each of the first four innings, including five in the fourth inning. 
Five Luverne players had hits in the game and seven players scored runs. 
Riley Sneller led the Cardinal offense against the Trojans. The LHS junior was three for three with three RBIs and one run scored. 
Sneller, Casey Sehr and Connor Overgaard all had doubles in the game. 
Braydon Ripka and Kaden Anderson each scored two runs for Luverne. Sehr had three RBIs.
Anderson (three innings), Sehr (two innings) and Conner Connell (two innings) all pitched for Luverne. 
Anderson gave up two hits, two runs and one walk. Sehr struck out two and gave up no hits and no runs. Connell gave up two hits, no runs and struck out four Trojan batters.
