Jason Berghorst

The Luverne 19-and-under (19U) baseball team returned to action this week with games in Worthington July 9 and in Marshall Monday night.
The team came up short in both games, losing by three runs in each game.
Luverne, now 2-3 on the delayed season, has a busy week ahead.
The team will host Tracy at Redbird Field Thursday (July 16), play in the Garretson tournament this weekend, and will host Minneota Monday night.

Worthington 4, Luverne 1
Luverne played its first game since June 21 when the team traveled to Worthington July 9.
The Cardinals struggled to get going offensively and lost the game 4-1.
“We just couldn’t get a rally going,” said Luverne coach Codie Zeutenhorst.
Luverne was down 4-0 at the start of the fifth inning but was only able to score one run by Ethan Beyer.
Beyer, Jacob Van Dam, Quinn Buss and Riley Anderson each had one hit for Luverne.
Beyer started the game on the mound and went 4 2/3 innings, striking out eight Worthington batters.
Isaiah Bartels then pitched the remainder of the game and struck out three.
