17U win two. come up short to Hadley

The Luverne 17U baseball team went 2-1 in their final week of the regular season.
The Cardinals defeated Jackson 7-2 and Pipestone 11-2 before coming up short against Hadley
The 17U team hosts an eight-team end-of-year tournament Friday and Saturday.
Games will be played at both Redbird Field and the high school fields. Game times are at 1 p.m, 3 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., with team pairings to be determined.
 
Luverne 7, Jackson 2
Luverne 17U came out on top when they hosted Jackson at Redbird Field July 28. The home team won 7-2.
Casey Sehr had a standout game for the Cardinals. Sehr had three hits, including a double, scored two runs and added an RBI.
Luke Bosch also scored twice during the game. Luverne’s other runs came from AJ Ossefoort, Connor Overgaard and Tryg Gangestad, who hit a double.
Ossefoort was the starting pitcher for Luverne. He gave up two runs, two hits, three walks and struck out three in three innings on the mound.
Bosch pitched the final four innings to earn the win. Bosch gave up no runs, two hits and one walk while striking out one Jackson batter.

Luverne 11, Pipestone 2
Pipestone took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning against the Luverne 17U team July 30, but that lead would not be enough.
Luverne went on to score 11 unanswered runs and came away with an easy 11-2 home field victory.
“It was nice to see us come back from being down 2-0,” Luverne head coach Mike Wenninger said. “We were able to play a quality Pipestone team and play well.”
Casey Sehr and Luke Bosch led the Cardinals at the plate. Sehr scored two runs from one hit while Bosch recorded two hits during the game.
Braydon Ripka started on the mound for Luverne. He gave up three walks and two runs.
Sehr replaced him and pitched for 6 2/3 innings. He struck out three Pipestone batters and gave up one hit and one walk.

Hadley 6, Luverne 2
The Luverne 17U baseball team suffered its first loss since July 11 when they lost to Hadley 6-2 Monday night in Hadley.
Coach Mike Wenninger employed a different pitcher each inning during the team’s final regular season game.
Kaden Anderson, Luke Bosch and Zach DeBoer each gave up no hits and no runs while pitching the first three innings.
Braydon Ripka gave up two hits, three walks and four runs during the fourth inning to take the loss for Luverne.
Conner Connell pitched the fifth and final inning for the Cardinals. Conner struck out three and gave up one hit and one run.
Riley Sneller led the offense for Luverne. Sneller had two hits, including a double, and scored one run and added one RBI.
Casey Sehr also had two hits for Luverne, including a double.
