Tigers nip LHS baseball team

The Luverne baseball team put up a good fight before falling to the Marshall Tigers by one run at Legion Field in Marshall May 13.

Luverne rallied from a 3-1 deficit to knot the score at three late in the game, but the Tigers scored the winning run of a 4-3 decision in the bottom half of the seventh inning due to a fielding error by LHS.

The Cards took a 1-0 lead in the first inning with an RBI single by Andrew Verhey.

Marshall scored one run in the second and two in the third to move in front for the first time, but LHS plated single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to tie the game at three.

Tommy Vajgrt belted a home run in the fifth inning and Verhey singled home a run in the sixth.

Connor Crabtree worked all seven innings on the mound and took the loss.

He walked five batters, fanned three and yielded three hits.
