St. Peter tops LHS tennis team

The Luverne tennis team wrapped up a 10-7 regular season by dropping a 5-2 decision to the St. Peter Saints in St. Peter Tuesday.

St. Peter went 3-1 in singles and took two of the three doubles matches to claim the victory.

“St. Peter is a good team. They really have some strong players at the top of their lineup,” said LHS coach Greg Antoine.

Isaac Gillette came away with a singles win for the Cards by topping Tanner Peterson 6-2, 7-5 in the No. 4 slot.

Luverne’s Mark Robinson and Cade VerSteeg nailed down a 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (12-10 in the tiebreaker) over Aaron Leeb and Kallen Werss at second doubles.

St. Peter’s singles wins came from Zeke Haugen (6-3, 6-3 over Erik Wohnoutka at No. 1), Rafat Solaman (6-1, 6-0 over Cory Stroeh at No. 2) and Drew Elefson (6-2, 6-1 over Jacob Jarchow at No. 3).

Avery Bachman and Joey More posted a 3-6, 6-4, 6-0 win over Dalton Schoeneman and Chris Jelken at first doubles, while Joe Siebels and Bradyn Klubben handed Tanner Baustian and Trey Baustian a pair of 6-3 setbacks at third doubles.
