New Ulm ends Luverne's run
Luverne’s bid to win four consecutive baseball games for the first time this season fell short Monday at Redbird Field.
Visiting New Ulm opened a 7-1 lead after two and one-half innings of play and withstood a challenge by LHS to secure an 8-7 win.
Luverne, which trailed 2-1 after Connor Hoffman singled and scored on an error in the bottom of the first inning, fell behind by six when the Eagles scored four runs in the second inning and one in the third.
The Cards, however climbed back into contention by scoring four runs in the third inning and one on the fourth to make it a 7-6 game.
Jaxon Nelson doubled home two runs and Andrew Verhey added an RBI double to highlight the rally in the third.
Verhey recorded an RBI with a fielder’s choice in the fourth.
The teams capped the scoring by plating one run each in the fifth inning.
Tommy Vajgrt delivered an RBI double to account for Luverne’s final run.
Nick Overgaard took the pitching loss after tossing two innings of nine-run ball.
