Cards sweep set from JCC

The Luverne baseball team swept a Big South Conference doubleheader from Jackson County Central at Redbird Field Thursday.

The Cardinals prevailed 13-0 in Game 1 before posting a 16-5 win in the finale.

A strong overall performance by senior Connor Crabtree led the Cards to a 13-run win in Game 1 of Thursday’s twin bill.

Crabtree tossed no-hit ball for five innings and drove in three runs with two hits at the plate during the game.

Crabtree fanned seven batters and walked two during his complete game on the mound.

LHS supported the pitcher by scoring five runs in the first inning, six in the third and two in the fourth.

Crabtree doubled home one run, Andrew Verhey and Jaxon Nelson slapped RBI singles and Tommy Vajgrt and Joe Sommers drew bases-loaded walks in the first inning.

Crabtree singled home two runs, Jakob Olson recorded an RBI double and Sommers and Connor Hoffman slapped RBI singles to highlight the third-inning rally.

Cole Bosch singled home one run and Verhey registered a sacrifice fly to cap the scoring in the fourth.

The Cardinals completed their sweep of the Huskies by recording an 11-run victory in Game 2.

Hoffman pitched a complete game drove in two runs for and LHS squad that runs in six of the game’s seven innings.

Hoffman recorded five strikeouts and walked three batters during his seven-inning pitching stint.

Luverne led 7-0 after scoring three runs in the first inning and two runs in the second and fourth frames.

Zach Suelter singled home run and Vajgrt notched a fielder’s choice to highlight the three-run first inning.

Crabtree singled home a run in the second to account for the lone RBI in the second inning and Nelson singled home a run and Suelter recorded a sacrifice fly during the third inning.

LHS led 8-2 when Connor Sandbulte singled and scored on an error in the fifth inning before the Cards put the game away with four-run outbursts in the sixth and seventh frames.

Sandbulte doubled home two runs, Hoffman delivered an RBI single and Olson chipped in a sacrifice fly in the sixth.

Olson stroked a two-run triple and Hoffman doubled home one run to highlight the seventh-inning rally.
