Cardinals, Dragons split softball set
The Luverne and Adrian Area softball teams split a twin bill in Luverne Monday.
A late rally gave the Cardinals a 12-6 victory in Game 1.
Adrian Area plated a pair of runs in the bottom half of the seventh inning to win Game 2 by a 11-10 tally.
LHS faced a 6-5 deficit after four and one-half innings of play in the opener before scoring seven consecutive runs in fifth and sixth innings to pull out a six-run victory.
Alexis Hiller and Katie Kracht led the Cardinals offensively by registering four and three hits respectively.
Brianna Jonason, Rilee Olson, Bryanna Wessels and MacKenzi Wenninger added two hits each to the winning cause.
Jodi Bents (one homerun) and Brooke Grussing registered three hits each for the Dragons, while Madisyn Dingmann added two hits.
Riley Olson pitched all seven innings for the Cards to get the win, while Devin Dreesen tossed all six innings to take the loss for AA.
Luverne overcame an 8-4 deficit to take a 10-9 lead after scoring two runs in the top of the sixth inning in Game 2.
AA, however, scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh inning due to an LHS error to post a one-run win.
Bents, Grussing, Dreesen, Olivia Weidert, Rebecca Sjogren and Madison Neuenberg registered two hits each for the winners.
Jonason, Olson, Susan Thompson and Madi Oye slapped two hits each for the Cards.
Bents tossed all seven innings to earn the win for the 2-14 Dragons.
Kaitlyn Roberts yielded nine runs in three-plus innings as Luverne’s starting pitcher. Ariel DeBeer took the loss after surrendering two runs in four innings for the 3-11 Cardinals.
