Dragons even season series with LHS

The Adrian Dragons used a rally late in the game to pull out a 4-2 win over the Luverne Cardinals Monday in Luverne.

Adrian, which lost to Luverne 17-3 in early April, plated a pair of runs in the top half of the sixth inning to event its annual season series with the Cardinals.

Luverne tied the game at two when Joe Sommers laid down a successful squeeze bunt in the home half of the fourth inning.

Adrian, however, received two-out singles from Michael Preuss and Logan Rogers before Brady Lonneman delivered a two-run single to settle the issue in the sixth inning.

Cole Bosch doubled and scored when Connor Crabtree singled in the first inning to give the Cards a 1-0 cushion.

Cody Polzine delivered RBI singles in the second and fourth innings to give the Dragons a 2-1 lead before Luverne tied the game in the bottom of the fourth.

Tony Sieve tossed the two innings of one run ball for the Dragons before giving way to Lonneman, who also threw two innings of one-run ball.

Preuss threw two shutout innings and got the win for AHS, and Rogers recorded a save by pitching a scoreless seventh inning.

Tommy Vajgrt pitched three innings of one-run ball for LHS before being replaced by Bosch, who yielded one run in one inning.

Nick Overgaard worked the next two innings and took the loss after surrendering two runs.

Crabtree twirled a scoreless seventh inning.

Luverne, which ends the regular season with an 8-10 record, opens postseason play in Fairmont Saturday.

The 11-5 Dragons, who capped the regular season in Worthington Tuesday, opens the Section 3A Tournament in Windom Saturday.
