Cards, Dragons split golf matches
Golf teams from the Star Herald coverage area locked horns at the Adrian Area Country Club Tuesday.
Luverne and Adrian met on the Dragons’ home course during a day that included mixed results for both programs.
The LHS girls posted a 184-193 win over the Dragons, while the AHS boys handed the Cardinals a 165-168 setback.
Madison Crabtree led the Cardinal girls to victory with a 44.
Makayla Sterrett and Hailey Remme added 46-stroke efforts to the team tally, while Hannah VerSteeg capped the scoring with a 48.
Hailey Franken shot a 54 without impacting the scoring.
Alexia Kemper secured medalist honors for AHS by carding a 42.
Katie Wieneke, Mackenzie Wagner and Jada Elias added respective 44-, 52- and 55-stroke rounds to the team total, while Madelyn Odell and Courtney Penning shot 59- and 69-stroke tallies without influencing the scoring.
Collin Kemper fired a two-over-par 38 to earn medalist honors for the AHS boys.
Ben Henning, Ryan Elias and Tommy McCarthy added 41-, 42- and 44-stroke rounds to the winning team tally, while Brady Henning and Mitchell Veld shot 48- and 51-stroke scores for AHS.
Coy Gonnerman led the Cards with a 40.
Jack Baustian recorded a 42, while Colton Arends and Chaz Smedsrud added 43-stroke efforts to the team tally.
Seth Miller and Casey Klosterbuer shot 49- and 50-stroke scores without contributing to the effort.
