Baseball Dragons blank MLA

The Adrian baseball team ran its Red Rock Conference record to 5-0 with a 4-0 home win over Mountain Lake Area.

Landon Rogers tossed four and one-third innings of two-hit ball to earn the win before giving way to Logan Rogers (one and one-third innings) and Michael Preuss (one inning), who completed the shutout.

Preuss belted a solo homerun to open the scoring in the game.


Patriot golf boys prevail in Iowa

The Hills-Beaver Creek boys’ golf team secured a 203-228 win over Edgerton-Southwest Christian at Meadow Acres Country Club near Larchwood, Iowa.

Stuart Plimpton earned medalist honors for H-BC by carding a nine-over-par 45.

Trevor Paulsen, Preston Maassen and Dylon Taubert added respective 49-, 54- and 55-stroke scores to the winning tally.


Adrian golf teams compete in Sanborn

The Adrian golf squads mixed it up in multi-team events hosted by Red Rock Central.

The AHS girls placed second as a team with 215 strokes during a triangular competition involving Windom (194) and RRC (242).

Alexia Kemper (48), Mackenzie Wagner (54), Jada Elias (55) and Madelyn Odell (58) made contributions to the team tally.

The Adrian boys turned in a 209-stroke effort to place third in a quadrangular competition involving Redwood Valley (166), Windom (197) and RRC (237).

Ryan Elias (40), Brady Henning (50), Cole Weidert (55) and Mitchell Veld (64) provided the scoring for AHS.


Wolverines keep AA softball team winless

The Adrian Area softball team dropped its fourth consecutive contest when it came up on the short end of a 7-4 decision against Mountain Lake Area in Mountain Lake.

The score was knotted at three after three innings of play, but MLA scored three unanswered runs in the final three and one-half frames.

Devin Dreesen tossed six innings of four-strikeout ball for the Dragons and led AA at the plate with three hits.


Area track teams unite at Fulda meet in Slayton

Hills-Beaver Creek, Adrian and Ellsworth competed at the Fulda Invitational in Slayton.

H-BC (26.5 points), EHS (25) and AHS (24) placed seventh, eighth and ninth respectively in a 12-team boys’ field.

H-BC (33.2) and Adrian (32) placed seventh and eighth in a 10-team girls’ field.

The H-BC boys received second-place efforts from Zach Scholten (39-10 in the shot put) and Drew Forshey (18.51 in the 110 hurdles), while Grace Bundesen earned a share of second place in the high jump for the girls by clearing 4-8.

Moriah Bullerman (5:51.51 in the 1,600) and Morgan Penning (13:41.28 in the 3,200) placed second for the AHS girls, while the boys’ 1,600-meter (Zach Bierman, Logan Ahlers, Hunter Heitkamp and Fran Serrao) relay placed third in 3:50.

Sean Boltjes turned in a pair of fourth-place finishes (18.69 in the 110 hurdles and 49.35 in the 300 hurdles) to lead the EHS boys.
